IEEE C62.62-2010 pdf free.IEEE Standard Test Specifications for Surge- Protective Devices (SPDs) for Use on the Load Side of the Service Equipment in Low-Voltage (1000 V and Less) AC Power Circuits.
IEEE C62.62 applies to surge-protective devices (SPDs) intended to be installed on the load side of the service equipment connected to 50 Hz or 60 Hz alternating current (ac) power circuits rated at 1000 V (root mean squared [rmsj) or less. Performance characteristics and standard methods for testing and rating are established for these devices, which may be composed of any combination of components. The tests in this standard are aimed at providing comparisons among the variety of surge-protective devices available.
1.2 Purpose
The purpose of this standard is to provide users, independent laboratories, and manufacturers with test methods and test specifications applicable to low-voltage surge-protective devices used on the load side of the service equipment, intended tbr limiting transient overvoltages that can appear on ac power circuits of 1000 V (mis) or less.
2. Normative references
The following referenced documents and URLs are indispensable for the application of this document (ic,they must be understood and used, so each referenced document is cited in text and its relationship to thisdocument is explained). For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments or corrigenda) applies.
For the purposes of this documcnt. the following terms and definitions apply. The IEEE Standards Diciio, wrv: GIos.cart of Terms & Definitions should be referenced for terms not defined in this clause.
circuit interrupt device: A device whose purpose is to interrupt the flow of power, usually in response to a fault.
degradation: Change of original performance parameters as a result of exposure of the Sri) to surge, service, or unfavorable environment. (IEC 61643-1, Ed. 2.0, 2005 (B41)
in-line surge-proteclise desice (SPD): A two-port surge-protective device (SPD) connected in sencs between the power supply and a load where the load current pa.sscs through the conductive terminals of the SPD such that the removal of the SPD opens the circuit but has no intended impedance.
measured limiting voltage: The maximum magnitude of voltage that is measured across the terminals of the surgc-protcctivc device (SPD) during the application of a series of impulses of specified wave shape and amplitude. (IEEE Std C62.34-1996 l61)
mode of protection: Surge-protective device (SPD) protective components may be connected line to line. linc to earth, line to neutral, or neutral to earth, and any combination thereof. (IEC 61643-I, Ed. 2.0,2005 11341).IEEE C62.62 pdf free download.
